Ballard Power and Eltek Nordic: Emergency power supply using fuel cells

The Canadian fuel cell manufacturer Ballard Power and the Norwegian company Eltek Nordic will cooperate in the fuel cell sector in the future. The two companies announced this in December 2020. As part of the project, Ballard Power will provide hydrogen-fueled fuel cell-based backup power systems with capacities of 1.7 and 5 kilowatts. The hydrogen technology is expected to provide a low-emission and uninterrupted power supply for telecommunication networks and other critical communication infrastructures in Northern Europe.

Jesper Themsen, President and CEO of Ballard Power Systems Europe A/S: “Telecommunications and critical communications infrastructures require highly reliable power supplies, including backup power in the event of a grid failure. With Ballard’s history and expertise in fuel cell backup power systems, we are pleased to be working with Eltek Nordic, a global leader in power solutions for the delivery of zero emission backup power systems.”

“Eltek Nordic delivers integrated power solutions for telecom and other critical communications infrastructures, all built on our core power conversion technology,” adds Ulf Ellingsen, Sales Director at Eltek Nordic. “Because hydrogen fuel cells offer a strong value proposition for backup power requirements, we are very pleased to be working with Ballard, the market leader in PEM fuel cell products. And with its office in Denmark, Ballard will be virtually on-site for Eltek projects in Norway, Denmark and Iceland.”
