Lhyfe provides green hydrogen for H2goesRail project

We at Deutsche Bahn have committed ourselves to an ambitious climate protection target: climate neutrality by 2040. An important building block on the way there is the increased use of alternative drives. That’s why we’re testing solutions for the use of green hydrogen, among other things. Together with Siemens Mobility, for example, we are currently working on the H2goesRail project, an innovative hydrogen system comprising a filling station, train and maintenance infrastructure.

As part of this project, DB Energie has now commissioned the hydrogen producer Lhyfe to provide green hydrogen at the Tübingen site in 2024. For this purpose, Lhyfe is building an electrolyser and operating it directly on site. After commissioning, an annual hydrogen production of around 30,000 kilograms can be realized.

DB Energie is providing the hydrogen supply for the one-year trial operation of the entire system in the H2goesRail project. To this end, the DB subsidiary is developing and building a hydrogen filling station with a new type of rapid refuelling system together with its partners Wystrach and Wenger Engineering. With Lhyfe, the innovative hydrogen system is now complemented by another partner.
