HPS welcomes new NRW solar hydrogen subsidy

Berlin, September 16, 2021

HPS Home Power Solutions GmbH (HPS), the provider of the world’s first home solar hydrogen storage system, welcomes the new funding from the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia. In August 2021, the federal state included the guideline “Stationary hydrogen-based energy systems in combination with a photovoltaic system” in the progres.nrw funding programme.

“The state government’s funding program is exemplary. In North Rhine-Westphalia, it offers financial support totalling up to 40 percent of the investment sum for the picea solar hydrogen storage system,” says Zeyad Abul-Ella, founder and managing director of HPS.

“The current progres.nrw program to accelerate the energy transition promotes both short-term storage and hydrogen-based, seasonal long-term storage. Together with the KfW subsidy from the federal government, this means that the highest subsidy from a federal state to date has been received for our CO2-free home storage system. The state and the citizens are investing here together to protect our environment in a CO2-free energy supply that is so urgently needed. Since the grant application must be submitted by November 20, our experts are available to clarify technical questions and assist with the application process.”

About picea

picea is the world’s first hydrogen-based electricity storage system for single and two-family homes. The surpluses generated by a solar system on sunny days are stored as green hydrogen and made available again in the dark season in the form of electricity and heat. In this way, picea achieves a CO2-free full power supply all year round and also reduces heating costs. Per year, a picea system avoids about three tons of CO2 and thus binds an amount of CO2 equal to 130 spruces. picea has won several prestigious awards, most recently the Handelsblatt Energy Award 2020 and the smarter E AWARD 2021.

About HPS Home Power Solutions

HPS develops and produces integrated systems for the storage and use of solar energy for detached and semi-detached houses. The Berlin-based company was founded in 2014 by Zeyad Abul-Ella and Dr. Henrik Colell and stands for security, independence and sustainability in decentralized power supply. The world’s first HPS system picea is electricity storage, heating support and living space ventilation in one compact product. For more information, please visit: www.homepowersolutions.de

Information on the progres.nrw funding programme: Stationary hydrogen-based energy systems in conjunction with a photovoltaic system

Funding is available for components for the construction of a stationary hydrogen-based energy system for building supply. The overall system must consist at least of a marketable electrolyser and hydrogen storage in combination with a hydrogen-based energy converter (for example a fuel cell or a boiler) and a photovoltaic system. The funding conditions and applications can be downloaded from the following website: https://www.bra.nrw.de/energie-bergbau/foerderinstrumente-fuer-die-energiewende/foerderung-von-stationaeren-wasserstoffbasierten-energiesystemen-verbindung-mit-einer.
