HPS Home Power Solutions cooperates with Wohnwerke to equip homes with picea, the hydrogen-based electricity storage system

Berlin, 10 June 2021: Berlin-based HPS Home Power Solutions GmbH and property developer and planner Wohnwerke GmbH are launching a partnership for climate-friendly, private homes. Wohnwerke will in future offer its customers the picea hydrogen-based electricity storage system from HPS as standard equipment for their single-family homes. The combination of modern architecture and an innovative energy system is to be demonstrated in a show house in Asperglen-Rudersberg near Stuttgart.

Based on solar energy and innovative power-to-gas hydrogen technology, picea enables a year-round CO2-free and independent power supply for one- and two-family homes. In this segment, HPS offers the first market-ready product worldwide. The picea system also uses the entire process heat of energy generation, storage and use to reduce the heat demand of the house. Consequently, picea has a very high overall utilization rate of around 90%.

Compared to available house batteries, picea offers more than 100 times the storage capacity. For the first time, picea makes hydrogen technology easily and efficiently usable for private households and can thus contribute significantly to climate protection. The show house will underline the technological market leadership of HPS as well as the readiness and reliability of picea. Wohnwerke is thus demonstrating its ambition to equip high-quality homes with an independent power supply and thus contribute to climate protection.

Zeyad Abul-Ella, Managing Director of HPS Home Power Solutions, comments: “Following the successful start of series production of picea, we are very pleased to announce today an attractive partner for the distribution of our innovative storage system. Wohnwerke stands for high-quality, modern and ecological home design and is therefore a perfect fit for our pioneering and practical energy solution.”

Lucas Neddermann, Managing Director of Wohnwerkeadds: “Our customers are quality and environmentally conscious and are looking for climate-friendly housing solutions. We are therefore very pleased to have found the innovative picea system as a partner with whom we could realise an energy self-sufficient building. Here we take a pioneering role with HPS in the future market of hydrogen-based energy storage in private homes.”

About picea
picea is the world’s first hydrogen-based electricity storage system for single and two-family homes. The surpluses generated by a photovoltaic system on sunny days are stored as green hydrogen and made available again in the dark season in the form of electricity and heat. In this way, picea achieves a CO2-free full power supply all year round and also reduces heating costs. Per year, a picea system avoids approx. 3 tons of CO2 and thus binds an amount of CO2 equal to 130 spruces. HPS began shipping its first picea units in 2019. In 2020, contract manufacturing began, so that larger quantities can be produced and delivered from 2021. picea has won several prestigious awards, most recently the Handelsblatt Energy Award 2021.
